With the expansion of the College Football Playoff, it will be interesting to see which teams that have been on the verge of making the playoff in the past will finally get over that hump. This expansion should attract more attention to various teams and conferences and help to discover potential "sleeper" teams.

During SEC media days, ex-Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban expressed his belief that the LSU Tigers could emerge as a surprise team in the SEC. ESPN's Paul Finebaum echoed this sentiment, stating that LSU might be on the cusp of something great.

"I do," Finebaum said. "I hope he's right. I think LSU seems to be on the verge of something really good. I think Coach Kelly knows that."

Finebaum emphasized the importance of teams starting the season strong to have a successful year. He concluded by saying it's time for the Tigers to break their streak of losing opening games.

The LSU Tigers have lost their last four opening games. Their most recent opening game win was in 2019, which led to LSU winning the national championship. LSU will kick off its campaign against the USC Trojans this season on Sept. 1, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
