RAYTOWN, Mo. — A Raytown restaurant announced its “official closure” following a fire over the weekend.

On Monday, The Krave, near 63 rd and Raytown Trafficway, shared this message to the community on Facebook:

“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and love throughout our journey. This is not the end—just the closing of one chapter as we look forward to opening the doors to a new one.”

FOX4 went to the restaurant on Monday and several people still pulled into the parking lot hoping to grab a bite to eat. Instead, they found the door locked and fire damage to the roof of the building.

“It’s devastating,” resident Christina Munoz said.

“You never plan for those things to happen.”

“It’s too bad for them,” resident Cardell Edwards said.

    “I feel for them.”

Edwards was one of many people who walked up to The Krave door, only to find out they were closed.

On Monday, The Krave Team posted to Facebook announcing, “the official closure” of the restaurant “due to a tragic fire.”

The Raytown Fire Department said the fire happened early Sunday morning at about 4 a.m.

Crews were working to repair damages to the roof Monday when FOX4 talked to the landlord. He said fire investigators told him it was likely due to an electrical issue.

The building owner said the fire started in the Kitchen area and nobody was there at the time.

The Krave Team said in the post, “We are incredibly grateful to report that no one was harmed, and everyone is safe.”

“I really hope for the best for them,” Munoz said.

“I really hope they can get back on their feet, and hopefully in the future, they maybe open something else up or maybe renovate this place to have another local breakfast place because I’m sure the City of Raytown is really going to miss them.”

Raytown Police also responded Sunday morning.

The Raytown Fire Dept. said it’s investigating. They’ll be working to find out exactly how the fire started.
