It was still unclear if Randall Cobb would keep playing football, but the former Green Bay Packers wide receiver has announced the beginning of a new chapter in his life. ESPN confirmed that Cobb is set to join SEC Network as a college football studio analyst. The statement said Cobb retired from the NFL after the 2023 season.

"I am incredibly excited to be coming home to the SEC with this new role," Cobb said in a statement. "The level of greatness this conference provides year after year is unmatched – I cannot wait to return to the conference family with this SEC Network crew."

Randall Cobb will appear on select editions of SEC Now throughout the fall and will also join co-host Alyssa Lang on Out of Pocket Presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors to fuse football and fun each week.

"We are thrilled to welcome Randall to the SEC Network crew," said Pete Watters, SEC Network Coordinating Producer II. "His experience and knowledge of the game, both from playing at Kentucky and in the NFL, will be such an asset to our football coverage."

    NFL career

Even though the statement said Cobb has retired, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that the receiver is still active if the right opportunity comes.

Randall Cobb had a small role for the New York Jets last year — he had been signed because of his connection with Aaron Rodgers , and with the veteran quarterback getting hurt after four offensive snaps, Cobb wasn't able to produce. He hadn't announced his official retirement yet, but ESPN confirmed he won't play anymore.

Cobb played college football at Kentucky between 2008 and 2010, making the First-Team All-SEC twice and being a First-Team All-American once. Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round in 2011, he made the All-Rookie Team and then the Pro Bowl in 2014.

He left the Packers to sign with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 and with the Houston Texans in 2020, but was brought back via trade by the Packers to a second stint, between 2021 and 2022.

In the NFL, he had 166 games, 630 receptions, 7,624 receiving yards, and 54 receiving touchdowns.
