Libby Berens Nienhuis was one of the best golfers in the history of the Holland area.

Now she is passing that knowlege on to the next generation.

Berens has taken over as Holland Christian girls golf coach, taking the helm of her alma mater.

"It is so cool to remember back in the days of playing and now be in my coach's role. I know more about them and know what they go through. Coaching would be awesome anywhere, but I am very excited to be back at HC," Berens Nienhuis said.

It won't be her first experience with the Maroons. She was an assistant coach last year under Megan Radaz, who left to take a job at Hope College after leading the Maroons to the state tournament.

"I helped out last season as much as I could last season. It was great to get back to golf and see how the coaching side of things went. It was interesting to see it from the other side and it ws so fun," Berens Nienhuis said. "When Megan took a job at Hope, I was excited to see if I could take on that role. It seemed like a great opportunity and I feel like I can add to the team that Megan created and continue that legacy."

Berens Nienhuis certainly has the plaing pedigree.

She was an all-state golfer at Holland Christian and graduated in 2016. She then played at Ferris State University and was the top golfer for the Bulldogs before graduating in 2016. She competed in a couple of LPGA qualifiers as well.

She is currently a financial advisor in Zeeland.

"It will be finding that balance of coaching and work and married life," she said. "I am looking forward to getting to know the girls even more. As an assistant I could be the fun coach and bend the rules, but now that will be different."
