BURLINGTON, IOWA (LOOTPRESS) – A 48-year-old Burlington man, David Carpenter, is accused of shooting his father in the face after an argument about “stinky feet.”

According to the arrest affidavit, Carpenter called the police late Sunday night and reported that he had shot his father. When officers arrived at the home on the 2700 block of Monarch Drive, they took Carpenter into custody in the front yard.

Inside the home, officers found Carpenter’s father with a gunshot wound to the face. The father was transported to a hospital, and his injury was not considered life-threatening. At the hospital, the father told police the two had been arguing about “David’s stinky feet” before the shooting.

During a police interview, Carpenter claimed there was a heated argument between him and his father, who was in a motorized scooter, after his father commented on Carpenter’s feet. Carpenter then went to his bedroom, retrieved a gun, and returned to the living room, where he pointed the gun at his father’s face and “accidentally pulled the trigger.”

Carpenter was charged with attempted murder , a Class B felony, and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor, as two children under 14 were present in the home during the incident. His bond is set at $100,000 cash only, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 21.
