Dan Hurley’s Blunt Zach Edey, NBA Draft Message Resurfaces After Grizzlies’ Stunning Selection

Back in April, UConn head coach Dan Hurley made his thoughts on Zach Edey's NBA Draft stock extremely clear.

Projected by many in the NBA world to be a mid-to-late first-round pick, Edey's questionable fit at the next level didn't seem to sway Hurley's opinion of the Purdue standout.

He told FS1 personality Colin Cowherd almost three months ago that if Edey isn't a "lottery pick" and a tremendous NBA player, something is wrong with the NBA .

Hurley's comments about the former Purdue big man are resurfacing after Edey was selected No. 9 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

"It's a little sad," Hurley said in April. "If Zach Edey is not, like, a lottery pick and, you know, a tremendous NBA player, then there's something wrong with the NBA."

Perhaps Hurley's faith in the association has been restored.

Edey, ESPN's No. 2 center in the 2024 NBA Draft, will look to form a potent frontcourt pairing with Memphis PF/C Jaren Jackson Jr. in his first NBA season this fall.
