MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A patriotic parade made its way through Central Gardens Thursday morning. This is a long-standing tradition, dating back nearly half a century.

During the pandemic, the parade was hosted on York Avenue between McLean Boulevard and Rozelle Street making this the third year at the new location.

People have come from far and wide for our local festivities. Memphis Mayor Paul Young was also at the Fourth of July Celebration.

“People come from miles around for this parade and they even venture and walk through this heat to get here,” said Mark Fleischer, Central Gardens Association.

Fleischer says it takes a village to pull off this parade each year with planning beginning in February.

“Here on this day, we are on the same page and we are all having fun together with families, and pets and bicycles and everything else and we are all in this together,” Fleischer said.

“This is kind of the thing they [families] look forward to all summer,” said Brie Wallace, parade watcher.

Even though it is extremely hot with barely a breeze, it is not stopping the dozens from coming out to enjoy what has become a decades-long tradition.
