Jon Gruden’s NFL Lawsuit Hit With Another Setback By State Supreme Court

Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden’s crusade to take down the NFL suffered another setback on Monday when he lost a bid to have three Nevada Supreme Court justices reconsider whether his lawsuit against the NFL could be heard in court rather than arbitration, per the Associated Press.

The court ruled back in May that Gruden’s case wouldn’t be heard in a court of law but was instead subject to private arbitration through the NFL, which would be overseen by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who’s also one of the defendants.

One of the justices did, however, state it would be “outrageous” to allow Goodell to arbitrate any case in which he’s a named defendant.

The court ruled in the NFL’s favor because it alleged that when Gruden signed his 10-year, $100 million contract with the Raiders in 2019, he agreed that matters such as this would be heard through league arbitration.

But the disgruntled former coach is arguing he should not be bound by those guidelines as he’s no longer an NFL employee.

The 60-year-old Gruden stated in July 2023 that he won’t settle his case for any amount of money, vowing to “burn the house down” as he sought to uncover who leaked a series of emails in which Gruden allegedly used misogynistic, racist and anti-LGBTQ+ language that ultimately led to his firing.

He maintains that Goodell is the mastermind behind a hit job against him that’s kept him from continuing his coaching career and damaged his chances of any other “future employment prospects and endorsement opportunities.”

Despite Gruden’s accusations, he worked with New Orleans Saints coaches on several occasions during the offseason last year.
