Former Pro Bowler Gets Official Punishment After Major Violation

According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, the NFL is suspending former San Francisco 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson for six games to start the 2024 NFL season. Gipson is being suspended for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Gipson has been with the Niners for the past two seasons but is currently a free agent. This suspension will almost certainly impact his chances of signing with another NFL team when he is 34 years old.

Gipson made the Pro Bowl in 2014 when he was with the Cleveland Browns. Gipson started all 33 games for the Niners over the last two seasons and had six interceptions.

Gipson put together a solid NFL career since joining the league as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He played his college ball at Wyoming.

There's been no statement from Gipson or his representatives. We assume Gipson will appeal the suspension.

Despite two strong seasons with the Niners, age and a crowded safety room made him expendable. If San Francisco had any thoughts of re-signing Gipson at some point in the offseason, that is likely no longer an option.
