(FOX40.COM) — A fire crew and a team from animal control services helped rescue a deer from a Sacramento County canal on Sunday.

According to Bradshaw Animal Shelter, a person spotted the young deer in a canal near Sunrise Blvd. and Jackson Rd., close to Mather Airport .

Raccoons, opossums, skunks, birds, deer, and coyotes can all be found in the Sacramento area

The shelter said that when the person tried to help, the animal swam farther down the canal.

A crew with Sacramento Metro Fire arrived and boarded an inflatable raft to capture the deer, bringing it back to shore and loading it into a truck.

Pictures shared by the shelter showed the deer on the shore of the canal and swimming in the water, as well as the crew when they reached the animal.

To keep the deer from jumping back into the water, the crews took it to a location away from the water and released it.
