DeSoto Football demolishes defending Georgia 5A runners-up 70-0

Coming off a 16-0 season and a Class 6A Division II state football title, DeSoto entered the 2024 season with sky-high expectations as one of the top teams in Texas — and the country.

The Eagles capped off their 2023 campaign in dominant fashion by beating Humble Summer Creek 71-14 in the championship game last December. And on Saturday, they demolished defending Georgia 5A state runner-up Creekside by a score of 70-0.

The game, which was touted as one of the biggest games in the country to watch this week, got out of hand early. The Eagles led 41-0 after the first quarter and 63-0 by the time the fourth quarter rolled around.

DeSoto scored on six straight drives to open the game as they overwhelmed Creekside, who fell 31-14 to Coffee (Ga.) in Georgia’s third-highest classification last winter.

Transfer quarterback and Virginia Tech commit Kelden Ryan totaled more than 300 yards combined on the ground and through the air, accounting for four total touchdowns.

The Eagles will move on next week — amidst one of the nation’s most formidable schedules — to face top-15 Texas foe North Crowley , who defeated Lancaster over the weekend.
