Mets’ Kodai Senga hits 97 mph, strikes out six in dominant first rehab outing

Kodai Senga pitched like his dominant self in his return to the mound.

In his first Mets rehab appearance, the 31-year-old struck out six in 2 2/3 hitless innings for the High-A affiliate Brooklyn Cyclones on Wednesday night.

Senga’s 35-pitch scoreless outing marked his first time facing hitters in-game this year after being sidelined with a shoulder injury in spring training .

The velocity on Senga’s pitches looked much as they did during his last year’s NL Rookie of the Year runner-up campaign in 2023, regularly hitting 97 with his fastball and generating whiffs with his signature forkball, cutter and curve.

Wednesday was a particularly monumental step considering there have been a slew of setbacks during Senga’s healing process .
