ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a man’s stabbing in Rogers on July 26, according to court documents.

Mischel Maritza Carrasquero-Romero, 20, of Rogers and Maikel Ruiz-Alvarado, 18, of Rogers were arrested on July 27 on an attempted capital murder charge.

Additionally, Carrasquero-Romero is facing a hindering apprehension or prosecution charge. Ruiz-Alvarado is also facing a first-degree battery charge.

A probable cause affidavit said around 9 p.m. on July 26, Rogers police responded to a stabbing call near Mercy Hospital in Rogers at the 2000 block of West Pine Street.

The hospital told Rogers dispatch that a man was in critical condition and had a “severe laceration” to his chest.

Detectives went to the hospital and found a man with a 10 to 12-inch laceration on the right side of his chest. The man was not responsive and was in the hospital’s intensive care unit, the affidavit said.

A witness later told police there was a fight between Ruiz-Alvarado and another man in the backyard of a home on West Pine Street.

The witness said Ruiz-Alvarado was agitated and attacked the man. Ruiz-Alvarado was seen at one point threatening the man with a broken bottle, according to the affidavit.

A second witness said she heard the fight and saw Carrasquero-Romeo grab a knife from the kitchen and give it to Ruiz-Alvarado before the stabbing.

A third witness told officials he saw Ruiz-Alvarado holding a broken bottle but did not see the stabbing.

A kitchen knife was found in the front yard by police and broken glass from a beer bottle was near the front of the home, the affidavit said.

Carrasquero-Romero and Ruiz-Alvarado were later arrested at a motel in Fort Smith the following morning.

Both are being held in the Benton County Jail on a $1 million bond.
