Local Man Caught in Bobcat Scam
(La Porte County, IN) - A Rolling Prairie man was apparently scammed by a bogus heavy machinery dealer. On Wednesday the man filed a report with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, claiming that he had paid over $13,000 for a Bobcat mini excavator before being ghosted by the company selling it. He told police that he found the Bobcat for sale by a company called Premium Heavy Gears. After signing a purchase agreement, he sent a wire transfer for half the amount, followed by the remainder eleven days later. He said he spoke once by phone to a woman who allegedly worked for the company. Then he got no further response.

Walkerton Couple charged with neglect of 13-year-old
LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A Walkerton couple are facing charges for neglect of a 13-year-old. Richard and Patricia Heitz are charged with neglect of a dependent after abandoning their 13-year-old son. The Heitz’s are also facing a second neglect of a dependent charge after cruelly confining the child.
City of Michigan City hosts promotes positive law enforcement-civilian relations at National Night Out 2024 event
On the evening of Tuesday, August 6, the Michigan City Police Department hosted its annual National Night Out at the Civic Plaza Lots in downtown Michigan City. This marked the second consecutive year that the police department has hosted this free event. The attendees, who primarily hailed from Michigan City, enjoyed free hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, and root beer floats throughout the day.
