I've personally never liked living in metropolitan areas. While closer to shopping, food, and other amenities, it's just never been my cup of tea. Rather, I prefer living in a quiet rural setting where I can host bonfires and enjoy target practice without disturbing nearby neighbors or violating a city ordinance. When I did live in a city, I also had to be much more mindful of crime. In fact, while living in an apartment in Clarksville, Tennessee, I had over $200 in Amazon packages stolen from my front porch in broad daylight. I've never had that issue in the country.
