Ruston’s quarterback Josh Brantley has settled in with his commitment to Tulane

Heading into the 2024 Louisiana high school football season, the Ruston High Bearcats are one of several teams with a bulls-eye on their backs.

That’s because coach Jerrod Baugh’s team won the LHSAA Non-Select Division I state title last season behind talented quarterback Josh Brantley and are early favorites to repeat their 14-0 run in 2023.

The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Brantley definitely gives his team a leg up on the competition. He recently committed to Tulane from among six offers that included hometown Louisiana Tech and UTSA. Brantley doesn’t see making a move from Ruston to the vagaries of New Orleans as an issue.

“I love the environment, the energy, the scenery,” Brantley said. “I’ve been around New Orleans all my life. I’ll be fine.”

Making the decision for the Green Wave was simple due to the high academic standards of the university.

“And the football program is on the rise,” he said. “Also, it being in-state it’ll be easier for my family to visit.”

Brantly said not much has changed on the recruiting front since he made his commitment, and the Tulane staff sees him as a football player rather than a quarterback.

“It’s alright, nothing crazy has happened since my commitment.” he said.
