While the San Antonio Spurs are just one year removed from selecting Victor Wembanyama first overall in the NBA Draft, his rookie season was so dominant that they are already looking for ways to field a win-now roster.

Averaging 21.4 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, 3.9 assists per game, and a league-leading 3.6 blocks per game in his rookie season, Wembanyama made the NBA's All-Defensive First Team in addition to winning Rookie of the Year.

As previously mentioned, Wembanyama's immediate dominance has the Spurs looking for ways to make a playoff push next season, which is why they selected UConn star Stephon Castle with the fourth pick in this year's draft.

Having won a championship under legendary UConn head coach Dan Hurley, Castle projects to be one of the more NBA-ready rookies in this class. The Spurs have been in need of improved guard play, and Castle can help with that right away.

Speaking with reporters at a press conference for Team France ahead of the Paris Olympics, Wembanyama was asked about the Castle selection, and expressed his excitement for San Antonio's big offseason move.

"I am very happy about this selection (Stephon Castle), one of the most NBA-ready players of this draft and a very good person too. We are paying a lot of attention to him at the Spurs," Wembanyama said, per Robin Wolff of TrashTalk (translated from French to English by X).

As Wembanyama emphasized, Castle is considered one of the most NBA-ready players in the 2024 NBA Draft, which is why the Spurs are very excited to have selected him fourth overall.
