Major League Baseball insider slams Cubs for trade deadline moves

The Chicago Cubs were an interesting team to watch at the trade deadline. They made moves in both directions, essentially buying and selling.

Interestingly, they have performed much better as of late, but still may be longshots to reach the postseason. On Foul Territory, insider Scott Braun took aim at the North Siders for their trade deadline moves.

"I'm pissed about their trade deadline," Braun said. "I don't like the way that teams are like, 'We're not going to add much' but then they did, and it's a long-term add but it's also a short-term add. Isaac Paredes is really good this year, and you're getting him for three seasons including this season. I don't like the mixed messages."

Braun clearly isn't pleased with what the Cubs did at the deadline and believes they should have committed one way or the other, choosing to strictly buy or sell.

While the Cubs added Paredes, they also traded away one of their top relievers in Mark Leiter Jr., who was shipped off to the New York Yankees. The team at least deserves credit for not throwing away the season, but buying and selling, as Braun pointed out, can lead to mixed messages being sent to the fanbase.

The Cubs are 59-61 and sit nine games back of first place in the National League Central, but only four games back in the Wild Card race, so they do still have a chance to reach the postseason for the first time since 2020. But it's clear that the moves they made might be a little confusing to the fanbase, and it's not certain which direction the team is headed in for now.
