A 16-year-old from Waukee was charged with second-degree murder in connection to a stabbing during a dispute that left a 23-year-old man dead last week.

Waukee Police Department officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Prairie Park Lane for a stabbing incident on Aug. 5, Chief Chad McCluskey said. First responders found a victim, identified as Brian McGee, 23, of Waukee, with multiple stab wounds.

McGee was transported to a Des Moines hospital where he later died.

A 16-year-old, identified as Jayden Luis Delerme, was arrested in connection to the stabbing, McCluskey said.

According to a criminal complaint, an altercation that involved five people took place inside the residence and then moved outside to the street. During the fight, Delerme allegedly stabbed and slashed McGee several times, according to court records.

McCluskey declined to comment on what led up to the argument or what exactly the argument was about.

He also did not specify the relationship between Delerme and McGee but confirmed they lived in the same home and were not related. McCluskey had initially told the Register that investigators believed the stabbing stemmed from a family argument.

Delerme, who was charged as an adult, was in the custody of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office as of Thursday afternoon, McCluskey said. He said no more information will be released about the stabbing.
