Tryon-Castro admitted she engaged in disorderly conduct, but her defense attorney challenged the felony charges of assault and robbery, according to the Roanoke Times .

Tryon-Castro and Joseph were among a mob of rioters who converged on the Capitol for former President Donald Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally that day, disrupting the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral win. They clashed with law enforcement near an entrance to the Capitol on the Lower West Terrace known as the “Tunnel,” the scene of some of the most violent confrontations, authorities said.

Tryon-Castro, clad in a knit beanie that said “Washington,” pushed her way to the front of the police line, court documents said .

“Come on up! Come on in!” she said at one point, waving her arm to indicate other rioters should join her at the front.

She pushed against police, directed rioters, and pulled a police riot shield out of an officer’s hands and gave it to other rioters.

At one point, she helped a rioter move away from the front line by calling other rioters, “let him out!”

At another point, she yelled, “we gotta get the shields to the front, ya’ll!” and “I’m pushing!”

Joseph, in his tricorn-style hat, gas mask, and body armor, pushed his way to the front of the police line and then moved to the entrance of the Tunnel. On his way out, he handed his gas mask to another rioter, who got into the melee. After standing at the entrance of the Tunnel, Joseph turned back inside for another “heave-ho effort against the police line” before leaving the building, prosecutors said .
