Tanger Outlets Deer Park and Riverhead Invite Local Schools to Apply for 2024 TangerKids Grants Program through Oct. 18
Tanger Outlets Deer Park and Tanger Outlets Riverhead announce the launch of the 2024 TangerKids Grants Program, continuing a long history of investing in the local community by supporting educational resources that help area students succeed. Applications are now open through Oct. 18, and Long Island educators are encouraged to apply at grants.tanger.com. The platform invites teachers and leaders within the community to identify their needs and request funding to enhance programs and better serve students as they work to create a more productive and inclusive learning environment.
Supplies drive collects school items for children
Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) thanked supporters of the Scott Martella “Supply our Students Drive” for donating more than 50 large bags filled with supplies that will help ensure that deserving local youngsters will start the school year off ready to learn.
School district launches new notification system to share BOE information with community
As a precursor to its August 22 board of education (BOE) meeting, during which “community engagement goals” will be discussed, the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District announced yesterday the launch of a new notification system which will be used to share BOE meeting notices and agendas, board communications such as letters to the community, and supporting documents with all those signed up to receive the notifications.

Syosset teacher honored by BOCES
Allison de Onis, World Language teacher at South Woods Middle School in the Syosset CSD, was honored by Nassau BOCES and the Nassau Association of School Technologists (NASTECH) for her exceptional contributions to the advancement of technology in our schools. Ms. De Onis was named a Nassau Association of School Technologists Award Recipient (NASTAR) at the sixth annual ceremony this past June.
White Coat Ceremony welcomes future MDs to the Renaissance School of Medicine at SBU
Family experiences, commitment to service, intrigue with biotech advances, drive many of the new 136 RSOM students to pursue medicine. At the Renaissance School of Medicine’s (RSOM) White Coat Ceremony, 136 incoming students officially began their medical school training by taking the Hippocratic Oath and wearing their physician “white coats” for the first time. Held at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center on August 9, the annual ceremony brings students, their families, and faculty together as the academic year begins. The RSOM has held a White Coat Ceremony since 1998.
Eglevsky Ballet offering six full-tuition scholarships
Six lucky advanced ballet students will be granted full-ride scholarships to Eglevsky Ballet, thanks to a rare donation from an anonymous donor. Maurice Brandon Curry, the executive artistic director lof Eglevsky Ballet, said this is the second anonymous donation the organization has received since the beginning of his tenure in 2015.
Stony Brook leads new program designed to further build and test quantum networks
The National Science Foundation launches its first 5 pilot projects under NQVL. Stony Brook University is leading a new project funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance Quantum Information Science and Technology (QIST) in the United States. The project is one the first five under the NSF’s National Quantum Virtual Laboratory (NQVL) program. Each project receives $1 million in funding. The Stony Brook-led project is in collaboration with Columbia University, Yale University, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).
