This Kings Co. city will conduct its first-ever walk audit

AVENAL, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The City of Avenal will conduct its first-ever walk audit in an effort to identify crucial infrastructure improvements for pedestrians.

A walk audit is a tool used to assess the conditions of pedestrian infrastructure to identify safety concerns and explore potential enhancements for a more pedestrian-friendly environment.

The city says they will be gathering input from various participants with diverse perspectives ranging from residents, local business owners, community organizations, and officials.

The audit will take place on April 10 at 10 a.m. beginning at the northside of Skyline Boulevard and ending at Avenal Neighborhood Park, with the route going along 5th Avenue.

During the walk, officials say participants will observe and document various aspects of the pedestrian environment, such as sidewalk conditions, shade coverage, ADA accessibility, and more.

The feedback will be used to inform the City of Avenal’s planning and development efforts to enhance safety and comfort within the community.

City officials say the event is being organized in conjunction with A&M Consulting Engineers as they prepare to apply for funding through the statewide Active Transportation Program (ATP). ATP funding will help transform disadvantaged community transportation infrastructure to prioritize pedestrians’ and cyclists’ needs and safety concerns.
