The fifth anniversary of the FineMark Women’s Pro Tennis Championship started April 29 at Bonita Bay Club and runs through May 5. This prestigious tournament, part of the Women’s USTA Pro Circuit, offers a prize purse of $100,000 and is one of only five events in the United States.

Top sponsors include the title sponsor, FineMark National Bank and Trust; presenting sponsor, Mercedes-Benz of Bonita Springs; official health care sponsor, Lee Health; and media sponsor, Hotwire. Their commitment to this event has been instrumental in its success year after year.

Florida Gulf Coast University has been integrated into the tournament, allowing college students to begin fulfilling their professional tennis goals. One of Bonita Bay Club’s community goals is to grow the game of tennis, especially for young women.

Fanny Norin was awarded the main draw wildcard, and the qualifier went to Isa Colmenares. One of the doubles wildcards was awarded to FGCU team Ida Ferding and Paloma Goldsmith, and the other wildcard went to Bella Zamarripa from Estero and Marie Kozyreva.

Also, this year, Cookie Jarvis Tredgett was awarded one of the wildcards for the qualifying. Jarvis, a Bonita Springs resident, is in the top 400 in the ITF World. She has played professionally and she’s only 16½ years old. She worked at the tournament as one of its ball girls in 2019, the tournament’s first year.

The tournament reaches out to the Southwest Florida community by offering local talent to gain entry via the coveted tournament wildcards.

Over the last five years, many of the players from previous years have been playing on the tour, making it into the main draws — players like Caroline Dolehide, Taylor Townsend, Leylah Fernandez, Coco Gauff, Katie Volynets, Lauren Davis, Ashlyn Krueger, Nao HIbino, Renata Zarazua, Shelby Rogers, Hailey Baptiste and even more in the doubles.

Bonita Bay Club hosts this world-class event and looks forward to welcoming players, sponsors and spectators to an unforgettable week of tennis excellence.
