Docs: Jonesboro teen preliminarily charged with rape after mid-July gathering

MUNCIE, Ind. — A Jonesboro teen has been preliminarily charged after he reportedly raped an 18-year-old teen during a gathering earlier this month.

According to court documents filed on Thursday in Delaware County, 18-year-old Harrison Yanis was charged with one count of rape, a Level 3 felony, in relation to the incident.

On Wednesday, an 18-year-old woman spoke with an officer from the Muncie Police Department regarding the incident, which reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of July 15.

The documents said that Yanis, and several of his friends, came over to her home at around 2 a.m. on July 15. After a short time, the teen reported that she was alone with Yanis in her bedroom.

The teen claimed that Yanis continued to offer her alcohol and she “drank an excessive amount in a short amount of time.”

“(The teen) advised Yanis was ‘pumping her full’ of alcohol,” the release said. “(The teen) stated after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol, (the teen) ‘blacked out.’ (The teen) advised she struggled to remember what occurred after this.”

The teen told police that before she blacked out, she remembered telling Yanis that she refuses to perform certain sexual acts because of personal preference. The teen told police that she remembered Yanis attempting to force her to perform those sexual acts on him, which was the last thing she remembered before she blacked out.

The teen told police that when she woke up the next morning, she had blood covering the lower portion of her body. The documents said that she reportedly had bruises over her leg and a “large amount of pain” in her left hip area.

The teen also reported that Yanis was wearing a t-shirt that reportedly had blood on the bottom front side of it, a fact that two other witnesses reportedly saw when Yanis left the home later that morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, Yanis was taken into custody in Marion. After he was in custody, Yanis reportedly confirmed he was “with a girl” in Muncie on July 15. A white t-shirt with a red stain was later found inside Yanis’ vehicle.
